Hiking

Small in Size, Big on Nature

Gnosjö may be a small municipality, but it's rich in hiking opportunities. Whether you're looking for a short cultural walk near Marieholm or want to tackle parts of the epic Smålandsleden Trail, there's something for every level and interest. Don’t forget to read more about Store Mosse National Park – home to a unique landscape and dozens of nature trails in one of southern Sweden’s most remarkable natural environments.

Järnbärarleden – The Iron Carrier's Trail

This scenic trail stretches approximately 20 kilometers, connecting Gnosjö and Isaberg Mountain Resort. Starting from the Töllstorp recreational area, the trail is of moderate difficulty and takes you through varied landscapes, including forests and hilly terrain. Just before you reach Isaberg, you’ll pass through Ettö Nature Reserve, an ideal spot for a break and to enjoy stunning views of the mountain ahead. Please note: Järnbärarleden is also used by cyclists, so be prepared to occasionally share the path.

Kävsjölänken – From Gnosjö to Store Mosse

Also about 20 kilometers long, Kävsjölänken connects Töllstorp recreational area with Kävsjö Church. It is moderately challenging, beginning with hilly terrain if you start from Gnosjö, and flattening out toward Kävsjö.  Once you reach Kävsjö, it’s easy to continue directly into Store Mosse National Park, where additional trails of various lengths await you. Please note: Kävsjölänken is also shared with cyclists. The trail is in need of clearing at some areas and can therefore be hard to pass.

Saxhytteleden

Saxhytteleden is a short but rewarding trail of around three kilometers, offering a cultural and historical walk through beautiful surroundings. Along the way, you’ll pass a historic dam site that tells a story of the area’s past. The terrain is hilly and parts of the trail are steep, which makes it unsuitable for strollers, wheelchairs, or walkers. Most of the route runs along gravel paths and offers peaceful nature combined with traces of local history. Along the trail, there are picnic benches and a designated barbecue area – ideal for a scenic break. You’ll find the trail between Marieholm and Skärvhult, clearly marked from the road with signs pointing to "Saxhyttan".

Höglandsleden

Höglandsleden is a long-distance hiking trail stretching approximately 440 kilometers in total, running through the Småland Highlands. Around 17 kilometers of this trail pass through Gnosjö municipality, overlapping with parts of the Järnbärarleden. From Gnosjö or Isaberg, hikers can follow the trail deeper into the inland highlands of Småland, through forests, hills, and rural landscapes.  At Kärringabacka, the trail branches off toward the neighboring municipality of Vaggeryd, providing further opportunities for extended hikes in southern Sweden’s wilderness.

Hälsans stig

Hälsans Stig – literally "The Path of Health" – is a six-kilometer loop that winds its way through the town of Gnosjö. The trail offers varied environments and is clearly marked every kilometer, making it easy to follow and track your distance. It’s a great option for everyday walking, running, or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll.

Lindestubbeleden

Lindestubbeleden is a forest trail of about 5.5 kilometers located just outside Marieholm. The trail offers hilly terrain and a relatively quiet, natural setting north of the Skärvån stream. While the path is marked, the signage can sometimes be obscured by vegetation, so it’s wise to stay attentive to your surroundings. Lindestubbeleden is perfect for those seeking a peaceful hike through typical southern Swedish forest landscape, with fewer crowds and plenty of space to explore.

Walking in Töllstorp

Töllstorp is a local gem for walking and light hiking, situated close to the center of Gnosjö. The recreational area offers three illuminated trails as well as the scenic route around Töllstorpasjön lake. For a longer walk, you can combine the lake path with the nearby Bergarundan trail, creating a loop of about seven kilometers in total. Töllstorp is ideal for daily exercise, family outings, or just a relaxing walk surrounded by forest and water.

The Småland Trail

The Småland Trail, Smålandsleden, is one of southern Sweden’s most extensive trail systems, stretching over 900 kilometers in total.  Several of its sections pass through Gnosjö municipality, including the well-known Kävsjölänken, Järnbärarleden, and the western entrance of Höglandsleden. The trail connects with other major hiking systems, such as the Hallandsleden, making it part of a broader hiking network through forests, lakes, and hills across the region. Whether you’re looking for a day trip or a multi-day adventure, Smålandsleden offers something for every hiker.
