Outdoor

Gnosjö municipality may be small, but despite that there are 111 lakes and many opportunities to discover different natural environments. Our biggest destination is of course our national park - Store Mosse. Southern Sweden's largest marshland area attracts many. Below you can find even more areas and things to do that are connected to outdoor life.

Store Mosse National Park

A Wilderness Adventure in Southern Sweden Store Mosse National Park offers an extraordinary experience for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Established in 1982, it is the only national park in the region and covers nearly 8,000 hectares. It has become a popular destination for adventurous visitors from Sweden, the Nordic countries, and all over Northern Europe. Welcome to a nature-filled adventure unlike anything else – where peace and wild beauty go hand in hand. The main reason to visit Store Mosse is to explore the park’s extensive network of hiking trails. With around 50 kilometers of well-marked paths, you can enjoy sweeping views across the vast bogland – the largest south of Lapland. For less experienced hikers or families, we recommend Wibecksleden and Svartgölsleden, two short and accessible trails of 1.6 km and 3.6 km (round trip). Both are wheelchair- and stroller-friendly, making it possible for everyone to experience the magic of the moss. Looking for more of a challenge? Try Kävsjön runt, a 12 km loop that takes you deep into the heart of the park. Make sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water and a packed lunch – the full walk takes around four hours. And this is just the beginning – many more trails are waiting to be discovered. Visit storemosse.se or explore additional trail tips right here on Visit Gnosjö. Want to experience the park in a new way? Join a guided snowshoe hike with naturum during winter – a truly unique adventure that’s perfect for families and friends. Store Mosse works closely with several passionate local guides. One of them is “Vandra med André”, who offers guided hikes in English, and especially German – perfect for our many German-speaking guests. Another is “Vandra med Ulrika”, who combines hiking with outdoor cooking based on ingredients from the wild. And yes – food always tastes better outside! Speaking of outdoor food experiences, keep an eye out for Utmark Sverige’s coffee hikes – where you'll enjoy freshly brewed coffee over an open fire in the middle of nature. Simply unforgettable. Don’t miss a visit to naturum, the park’s visitor center. Discover engaging exhibitions about the park’s rich nature and history, and look out across the bog through panoramic windows equipped with binoculars. You might spot cranes, eagles, moose, and wading birds. Please note: during summer, the parking lot at naturum can fill up. Consider using one of the park’s other entrances instead. Also, overnight parking for motorhomes is not allowed at naturum. Store Mosse National Park is waiting to be explored. Every step is an adventure, and every moment brings you closer to nature. You are welcome all year round – whether you walk on your own or join a guided tour with one of the dedicated local guides who help bring this natural wonder to life.
